Art Journaling Your One Little Word (OLW) for 2018 with Teri

This is my first blog post as part of the Scrapping Wonders Design Team. I love to art journal, collage and write and wanted to give it a try on one of the shop’s inserts. I decided to go ahead and make an art journal spread around my word for 2018: SAVOR. This is my third year choosing one little word (olw) for the year. This year I decided I wanted to savor and enjoy all the little moments of my days.

I started out by gathering my art supplies that I thought I would use and got out my B6 Traveler’s Notebook insert from the shop. This insert has Vellum Bristol paper.

I used Mod Podge, Jane Davenport watercolors, Washi from, Tim Holtz distress spray and ink pad, a stencil and ephemera I had on hand.

I started out stenciling then adding color with the distress ink spray and watercolor.

On the left side of the spread I used Mod Podge to lay down a torn napkin. While that dried I distressed a small envelope and paper to write about my word for the year. I added a dotted vellum paper, ribbon and string behind the envelope, then added a large sequin heart and the word, Savor.

On the right side of the spread I glued a picture of comfy looking chair and foot stool down, glued a bit of fabric, distressed a quote card and placed it near the top and attached a fabric butterfly to the card. Then I added a bit of washi to the page to complete it.

It was a fun way to journal my word for the year and the paper took it well. I look forward to doing more art journaling in this insert. You can watch the process video here:

Great vid! Does that glue prevent the fabric from getting super stiff? I tried using Mod Podge on a piece of fabric, and it just turned really hard and stiff when it dried.

Thank you! Sorry it took so long to reply! Yes, it does prevent the fabric from getting stiff. Use that or any clear craft glue.

Savor is my word, too. A friend pointed out that I use fairly often. Last year it was “Enough” and this year I will “Savor” Thanks for sharing your beautiful inspiration.

You’re very welcome, Valerie. I’m glad to hear that someone else is using this word as well.
