Morning pages or night pages are truly what help me keep it together. When I first started my business I started it for all the memory keepers/scrapbookers by creating an all white quality made travelers notebook.
If you have been with me for a while then you know that I am huge proponent of ways to help you and myself get through life the best way that we can. I found Morning Pages through Julia Cameron.
Julia's explanation of Morning Pages is that "Morning Pages are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning. *There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages*–they are not high art. They are not even “writing.” They are about anything and everything that crosses your mind– and they are for your eyes only. Morning Pages provoke, clarify, comfort, cajole, prioritize and synchronize the day at hand. Do not over-think Morning Pages: just put three pages of anything on the page...and then do three more pages tomorrow."
You might be wondering now why I say that travelers notebooks are perfect for this and this is because the notebooks are smaller and not as intimidating as having to fill up a whole journal. Sometimes too many pages can stop a person from actually writing in the notebook.
I believe that Morning pages or Night pages really help me keep my thoughts from eating away at me. By getting all that information out of my head I am truly able to continue my day without all the thoughts running around while I am trying to do work.
Some mornings I don't get to my morning pages. If this happens I end up doing Night pages. Writing the night pages truly helps me get all the thoughts written down and out of my head so I can get a better nights sleep.
The key to writing these 3 pages is to actually write out 3 pages. You might think that you don't have enough information to fill 3 pages but I promise you once you start writing you will be able to fill them. The other is key to only write 3 pages of a stream of consciousness.
A good, comfortable pen helps you write the 3 pages. I really like using my TWSBI eco fountain pen or my Clena Energel pen. This is the place where you can write any and all thoughts that are in your mind. These pages are not to be shared with anyone. I don't generally read my own morning pages unless I have come up with a brilliant plan that I need to write down somewhere else.
One of the things that I like to do with my morning pages is paint 3 pages with some watercolors in my Tomoe River notebook and use a few stickers. I don't have time to do this though and this is not something that you have to do either, I just happen to love playing with watercolors.
