Words+Photos+You=Love Layout

I love creating my mixed media layouts. They give me such a sense of joy and have become more of the norm for me. I really enjoy using different mediums to create something that is unique.

The first thing I did was grab some of the gorgeous paper from the Close to My Heart La Vie En Rose paper pack. This paper is stunning and has a lot of black and white papers that are just gorgeous. I put a wash of gesso over my the paper to tone it down and prepare it for mixed media. A gesso wash is simply gesso mixed with water so that the gesso is more transparent.

After I dried the gesso wash with my heat gun I grabbed some Prussian blue acrylic paint, which is gorgeous and added an acrylic wash to the paper. An acrylic wash is the same thing as a gesso wash, just add water to your acrylic paint and give it a mix. What ends up happening is that your acrylic paint is more transparent and it can act somewhat like watercolor paint when you do this.

The next thing that I did was grab a silk screen and some gold paint to add my title I truly wish that I had picked a different color paint but once it was on it was on and I left it alone. I also added some modeling paste with a Prima stencil to the background and backed my photo with some tissue paper. I love using tissue paper as mats for my photos, it gives a subtle look that makes me very happy.

I was really happy with the way that this was coming along. To adhere my photo I added some foam tape to the back of it and then a piece of scrap chipboard to that so that I could use my glue gun to stick it all done. Once you have modeling paste down it is really hard to get anything to stick to it so I prefer to use my hot glue gun. After this it was time for some embellishments and journaling so that I could call this layout done.

Have you dabbled in mixed media layouts?
